Properties
Potassium silicate is a clear liquid soluble in water, decomposing in acid to precipitate silica, and insoluble in alcohol. Its aqueous solution is alkaline due to strong hydrolysis. It exhibits excellent adhesive properties with viscosity dependent on modulus, concentration, and temperature.
Applications
- Refractory material binders and oilfield drilling fluid additives
- Welding rod and electrode manufacturing
- Vat dyes, reducing dyes, and fire retardant formulations
- Fluorescent screen coatings and inorganic paints
- Soap fillers and pharmaceutical manufacturing
- Curing agents and specialty protective coatings
